European Restructuring Monitor (ERM)
The restructuring events database contains factsheets with data on large-scale restructuring events reported in the principal national media and company websites in each EU Member State. This database was created in 2002.
Fazer Lietuva, the Finnish company of the international bakery and confectionery group Fazer, closes its bakery in Kaunas and lays off 182 out of 218 employees. In April, the company announced that it was considering merging its Baltic bakeries into one modern bakery in Ogre, Latvia. A new warehouse, a loading area and a warehouse for frozen products are currently under construction in Ogre, and the relocation process will start in the autumn, bringing the production into a single location. Up to 60 workers made redundant might be rehired in Ogre.
The Public Employment Service reports that the main redundancies in the company are in the bakery and bread bakers (84), packers (30), warehouse workers (20), mechanics (6), dispatchers (5) and other workers. The redundancies will take effect from 30 September.
According to Fazer Bakery Baltics, the company supports the redundant workers and helps them to find new jobs. Vacancies in other Fazer Group units are being offered on a priority basis to those employees whose employment is terminated, company also cooperates with the Public Employment Service.
