Description
State Joint Stock Company Latvijas dzelzceļš (LDz) will lay off 298 employees working in the cleaning of railway infrastructure premises and territories. The company explains that an evaluation of the cleaning process of railway infrastructure premises and territories has been carried out, analysing the cost-effectiveness. It was concluded that outsourcing this work is more cost-effective for the company compared to the current situation, where the work is carried out by LDz' employees.
The company has informed the affected employees of the decision, submitted a collective redundancy notice to the State Employment Agency, the relevant municipalities and the Latvian Railway and Transport Workers' Union. LDz has contacted the successful bidders for the outsourcing contracts, introducing them to the LDz staff who have performed this work so far, in order to consider the possibility of employing these staff for further cleaning of LDz railway infrastructure premises and areas.
