The French press group Sud Ouest (GSO), based in Bordeaux, has announced a redundancy plan involving 118 jobs. For the time being, this is a voluntary redundancy plan covering all departments of the company, from editorial to printing, with 25 journalists' jobs under threat, according to the National Union of Journalists (SNJ). According to the SNJ, in addition to staff cuts at the head office in Bordeaux (Gironde), management plans to close three branches in Oloron-Sainte-Marie and Orthez (Pyrénées-Atlantiques) and Sarlat (Dordogne). Voluntary departure plans have already been set up in 2012-2013 with 180 job cuts Sud-Ouest 2013 - FR and in 2019 with 132 job cuts Sud-Ouest 2019 - FR.
Sud-Ouest employs 720 people, including 250 journalists. The group, which this year celebrates the 80th anniversary of several of its titles (Sud-Ouest, la République des Pyrénées, Charente libre, etc.), has forecast a consolidated net profit of €907,000 in 2022, compared with €2.8 million in 2021, while Sapeso recorded a loss of €2.35 million.
