Description

On 13 March, the French subsidiary of the IBM group announced a social plan to the central social and economic committee. According to the CFDT and Unsa trade unions, the plan will lead to the reduction of 206 jobs, or 5% of the company's workforce, without resorting to compulsory redundancies. The rationale behind the social plan is believed to be related to the improved performance in artificial intelligence and the enhanced use of offshore shared service centres. 'This Voluntary Redundancy Plan is based on two main proposals: end-of-career measures and voluntary departures, with the former taking priority over the latter,' explains Marcel Yemsi, secretary of the Works Council and head of communications for the CFDT at IBM France. The majority of the job cuts concern support functions, with additional job cuts planned in sales, hardware and software maintenance, and research laboratories. The social plan is expected to be concluded in July. Then the first departure could start.

It must be noticed that in 2021, IBM carried out a redundancy plan with 1250 job losses 2000-IBM-FR
