Description
Car manufacturer Stellantis has announced a reorganisation of its Stellantis plant in Metz-Borny (Moselle), with the loss of 230 jobs. The plant is to close two of its three gearbox production lines and relocate them to India and Italy. The CGT union claims that production at the site will fall by 50% from 2024, then by 75% in 2025. This choice will result in the loss of 230 jobs, yet no forced layoffs will occur. Workers will have the option to either opt for early retirement or to move to one of the two electric motor gearbox joint ventures also located in Metz: Emotors in Metz-Trémery, co-owned by Nidec, and e-Transmissions in Metz-Borny, co-owned by Punch Powertrain. But the CGT believes that these two sites will not be able to accommodate all the affected employees.
