Description

The Finnish Institute for Health and Welfare, Terveyden ja hyvinvoinnin laitos (THL), is initiating coperation negotiations for their entire workforce, starting from 6th of March 2024 and proceeding for about two months. About 200 full-time employees are at risk of being made redundant (15% of THL’s current workforce).

The reorganisation of the institute is mainly a measure taken due to a state budget cuts, where the institute will receive €12 million less than their current expenses. Decreasing the workforce will not be sufficient, there is also a need for THL to revise their role, operations and tasks for the period of 2024-2027, to meet the budget cuts.

In total, the institute be subjected to a staff reduction of 206 employees. According to an elected representative at the institution, it is believed that there will be further downsizing measures in the future, due to a decrease in external funds. There are concerns among the remaining staff, regarding the institute's crisis responsiveness.
