Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Nestlé Hungária, the Hungarian subsidiary of Swiss conglomerate Nestlé, has announced an expansion of its pet food production site in Bük, Western Hungary. The firm will build a new plant, with two additional production lines installed, thereby expanding the output by 50,000 tons a year, a capacity growth of 11%. The investment will create more than 130 new jobs. The new production will be put in place in the second half of 2024, and the new plant is to start producing in 2025, according to the plans.
The present investment is the final phase of a 2020-2025 development cycle in Bük. Taken together with the previous investments since 2020, the cumulative personnel growth will be above 600. The investment cost is roughly €140 million. The government contributes to the development by providing the necessary infrastructure through a modernisation of the local water network. The investment will probably have some positive domestic spillover impact since almost half of the raw materials come from Hungarian suppliers.
At present, the Bük plant has some 1300 employees.
