Description
Dutch meat producer Vion has announced plans to close its plant in Emstek. Around 750 jobs will be lost due to the closure.
The company stated that strong competition from the US, China and South America was the reason for closing this plant. The company was not able to find a buyer for the plant in Emstek. Vion wants to support affected employees by looking into possible job alternatives within the group but also by helping with the search for a new employer. The company and employee representatives also want to negotiate a social plan to reconcile the different interests.
Initially, the plant was to be closed by March 2024. However, on 15 February 2024, it was reported that the company could realise the closure earlier and the plant is to be closed on 16 February 2024. Already in summer 2023, Vion Food Group had closed another slaughterhouse in Bad Bramstedt (Vion-2023-DE.
