Description
In November 2023, tyre manufacturer Goodyear announced further cost saving measures, also affecting German plants. According to the latest news, the plant in Fürstenwalde will be phased out by the end of 2027, leading to 700 job losses.
According to the company, job cuts became necessary as demand in the car market dwindled and inflation was high. In a press statement of mid-Noveber 2023, the company reported on its newly developed cost saving programme, also leading to plant closures in Fürstenwalde and Fulda.
Union IGBCE already stated that it would not just accept the plan and organise protests. These news follow a series of earlier announcements of job cuts at the American company's plants in Fulda and Hanau (Hesse). In 2019, over 1000 jobs had been cut.
Goodyear Dunlop is one of the largest tyre manufacturers in Germany and employs over 5,000 people. Worldwide, it has 72,000 employees at 55 locations in 23 countries. The company's brands include Goodyear, Dunlop and Fulda tyres.
