Description

The Lecta group, leader manufacturer of paper products, has presented a plan to shut down a coated paper production line, threatening 186 jobs out of a total workforce of 420. In recent months, the plant has experienced several alternating periods of short-time working and resumption of activity. The significant decline in the paper market as well as the recent rise in energy prices partly explains the difficulties encountered. Production was halted in September due to a strike called by the unions. Employees fear that the plant will eventually close altogether. Sophie Binet, general secretary of the CGT and François Hommeril, general secretary of the CFE-CGC were received on 11 September by the Minister for the Economy, Bruno Lemaire, and Roland Lescure, the Minister for Industry, to ask the French government to look for another shareholder.

A former restructuring has been already recorded in the ERM Database, with 104 job cuts in 2007 Condat 2007 - FR
