Swiss food multinational Nestlé is to close its Wyeth Nutrition infant formula manufacturing plant and research and development centre in Limerick over the next two and a half years, leading to the loss of 542 jobs.
Nestlé blamed falling demand for imported infant formula in China for the closure of the plant. A total of 491 people working at the plant and a further 51 employed at the R&D facility are to be made redundant. All manufacturing operations will cease by early 2026, while the R&D centre will already close in early 2025.
The company is consulting employees and unions regarding a redundancy package.
