Description

Finnish paper manufacturer Metsä Group has completed the construction of its pulp mill in Kemi, and it commenced operations in September with 250 new employees starting work at the mill. The pulp mill is expected to operate at full capacity in one year and employ a total of 1,500 new people in all of its operations. Most of the new jobs will be created in logging and transport.

The aim of building the mill is to produce bio-paper products without fossil fuels, and thus modernise the forestry sector in a more sustainable direction. The mill will also produce renewable electricity, which represents 2% of Finland's total electricity production.

During its construction, the pulp mill has employed at most almost 4,000 workers.

Metsä Group is a Finnish paper manufacturer with operations in Finland, Sweden, Germany, Poland, the UK, Slovakia, Russia and the Baltic countries. The company has a total of 9,500 employees worldwide, of which 5,135 in Finland.
