Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Deanta is an Irish company which offers publishing production management services (e.g. proofing, copy editing, digital asset management) to Universities and publishers. The company is headquartered in Dublin (where currently 10 people are employed) and owns an operative subsidiary in India (120 employees). In October 2017, it announced the relocation from India to a new office in Dublin of some core editorial and management functions (mainly related to project management activities). The company declared its intention to increase investments in Ireland in the next year; more specifically, it is expected to double its staff in the Dublin headquarter by the next 20 years. The relocation decision was mainly motivated by the company’s continuous growth, and by the need to rapidly respond to costumers requests of new digitalized services.
