Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
TBA Textiles is a British manufacturer of high performance technical textiles with over 140 years experience in the industry. The company is based in Rochdale, Lancashire, UK. TBA Textiles supplies over 100 countries across sectors including construction, marine and transportation. In recent years, the company outsourced part of its production to the Netherlands. TBA Textiles has received help and support offered by the N Brown Textiles Growth Programme in the form of a second grant of £150,000. With this support TBA Textiles will go ahead with its investment of around £700,000 in its own manufacturing plant in Rochdale over the next two years. This investment articulated that TBA Textiles refines its focus , returning its business which previously outsourced in Netherlands back to home country. The investment sees 16 new jobs and two new apprenticeships created in Greater Manchester, in addition to the 18 jobs associated with an earlier investment this year. In turn, this investment will secure the position of TBA Textiles at the forefront of development and manufacture of high performance technical textiles, and, additionally, will allow for beneficial socio-economic effects in the form of new job opportunities and apprenticeships.
