Description

The Paris Commercial Court has ordered the compulsory liquidation of Gorillas, owned by the Turkish group Getir, resulting in the redundancy of 500 employees. The French subsidiary of the Turkish group Getir had been in receivership since March. Getir, which had bought Gorillas in 2022, had then decided to leave the French market. The liquidation of Getir (FR-Getir-2023) and Gorillas seems to be due to a change in regulations in France. In March 2023, the government changed the definition of premises where products are stored for delivery as warehouses, and not any longer as shops. This reclassification has enabled mayors to regulate this activity and, to close certain premises.  30 Gorillas' shops employ 500 people which will all become redundant.
