Description

As part of the 10,000 job reduction plan announced worldwide in mid-January (WO-Microsoft-2023), Microsoft's French subsidiary announced the loss of 206 jobs in France, out of a total of 1,800 employees, i.e. just over 10% of its workforce.

The management presented a Collective Dismissal Agreement to the employee representatives of the Social and Economic Committee. This new Collective Dismissal mechanism, introduced by the 2017 reform of the labour code, makes it possible to cut jobs on a voluntary basis without resorting to economic layoffs.

A collective agreement has been signed on 14 April before being submitted to the labour inspectorate for approval. After that, the management plans to sign individual contractual terminations until the end of June with actual departures taking place until up to the end of the summer. The positions concerned are spread over practically all the divisions, mainly at the headquarters in Issy-les-Moulineaux (Haut-de-Seine).

This restructuring comes at a time when the subsidiary is growing and had launched a recruitment plan in July 2022, which it had to cancel.  The French management seems to have anticipated a new wave of job cuts worldwide.
