Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
The on-location online food delivery platform has announced a global restructuring plan which will cut 4480 jobs from its global workforce. It is not clear which departments will be impacted, or to what extent the restructuring will impact delivery riders. Getir has stated it will not exit any markets, however, confirmed locations for job cuts are France (Getir-2022-FR), Germany, United Kingdom and USA. The global restructuring has been attributed to uncertain economic forecasts and cost pressures due to inflation.
There is no information on the restructuring process for employees or the involvement of social partners.
Getir operates in Turkey, the United Kingdom, Germany, France, Italy, Spain, Netherlands, Portugal and USA.
Update, 13/02/2023
Getir has acquired on-location food delivery start-up Gorillas. As part of the acquisition, Gorillas has itself announced a restructuring plan which will see job cuts as well as some remaining employees transferring to Getir.
