Description

The multinational online retailer Amazon announced it would close its logistics centre in Brieselang/Brandenburg close to Berlin, a decision that will effect around 600 employees working on the site. Amazon's decision is made in the context of the multinational's announcement in early 2023 for a global restructuring plant, cutting 18000 jobs worldwide. The closure is stated as being implemented by the end of 2023.

Amazon has started negotiations with the local works council and announced it would offer the employees jobs at other Amazon sites in Germany. At the same time, Amazon also declared it would create 2000 new jobs in Germany within the next 3 years, without specifying where.

The United Services Union (ver.di) criticised that it would not be possible for all workers to move to a different location in Germany which would mean that many workers would lose their employment, and was hoping that Amazon would provide information on whether it would leave the region entirely or if it was planning to open a new logistics centre nearby.

The global restructuring plan announced by Amazon in 2023 has been recorded in the ERM database (Amazon-2023-WO).
