European Restructuring Monitor (ERM)
The restructuring events database contains factsheets with data on large-scale restructuring events reported in the principal national media and company websites in each EU Member State. This database was created in 2002.
The Carrefour chain has announced it is closing more than 20 shops across Poland, including Galeria Alkoholi and Carrefour Express shops. The restructuring will result in job cuts that will affect a maximum of 165 people. The application for collective redundancies has been submitted to the Labour Office on 19.01.2023, and the process will start no sooner than 30 days after the submission date. These lay-offs are related to the company's strategy until 2026 to respond to customer needs in a difficult macroeconomic and geopolitical environment. According to Carrefour in Poland, trade union organisations were informed of the plans, but consultations with the social partners did not lead to an agreement. The company's trade union organisation, NSZZ "Solidarność", on the other hand, claims that the employer prematurely broke off negotiations on the terms and conditions of collective redundancies, taking into account only one of the trade unionists' demands. As part of the announced rules of collective redundancy, Carrefour will provide for the laid-off workers to benefit from financial support and a so-called outplacement service. Carrefour is a French joint-stock company with a chain of hypermarkets and supermarkets, founded in France in 1960. As of 2022, Carrefour Polska is owned by the Mid Europa Partners fund.
