Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
As announced on 26 January 2023, the Chinese battery manufacturer CATL has opened its first European plant in Arnstadt which will create 2,000 jobs in 2023. CATL will invest €1.8 billion in the plant and will ramp up large-scale production of lithium-iron cells in 2023. 400 Chinese skilled workers were flown in to support their 600 German colleagues to start operations of the new 500 metres long production line. CATL will be adding 5 additional production lines in the upcoming months and will be looking for 1,800 to 2,000 new employees until the end of 2023.
