Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Irish tech company Intercom has announced plans to cut 130 (13%) jobs from it's global workforce. The planned restructuring is due to a slump in demand, rising cost pressures and inflated staff numbers due to an 'expansive' recruitment scheme over recent years. The Irish-founded software company plans to lay-off 39 employees in Ireland (amounting to 5% of its global workforce) and relocating 14 jobs from USA to Dublin, Ireland. Job cuts will target Human Resources and Marketing departments.
A previous restructuring event has been recorded in the ERM Event database for Intercom In 2021, with a planned expansion of 150 jobs in Ireland (Intercom-2021-IE).
Intercom was established in Dublin in 2011, currently employing 1000 people. It has offices in Dublin, San Francisco, Chicago, London and Sydney.
