Description

MM Količevo, a producer of recycled and virgin fibre cartonboard for packaging food, small electrical appliances, cosmetics and pharmaceuticals, announced the layoff of approximately 25% of the company’s workforce, that is between 103 and 110 workers.

The decision to reduce production has been motivated by rising energy costs, high prices of raw materials and a move towards the decommissioning of old machinery. As a result of the worsening economic situation, the company’s owner, Austrian firm MM Board & Paper, has decided to stop the worn-out KS2 carton machine, and prioritize production through the more advanced KS3 cardboard machine.

The management will engage in dialogues with workers’ representatives and prioritize using different soft methods and solutions to support redundant employees.

The company currently employs 412 workers.

Update, 17/11/20: MM Količevo announced 110 job cuts but, following negotiations with the trade union Pergam, it reduced the number to 85. If 20 redundant workers agree to internal redeployment, the final number of redundancies will be 65.
