Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Polish ceramic tiles manufacturer Cerrad has announced plans to dismiss around 350 employees in Poland. The decision comes as a part of an internal restructuring and is related to the difficult economic situation due to the increase in gas prices for the company- by 1,500% in just 18 months since January 2021. The company need to shut down three out of seven production lines. Most of the redundancies will affect operational production line workers. The manufacturing sites affected are in Starachowice and Końskie (świętokrzyskie Voivodeship), but the board does not exclude the possibility of further job reductions.
The company employs 1,400 people in Poland and the mass lay-off will encompass the 25% of the workforce.
