Description

The Swedish media company Aller Media has announced a lay-off comprising 60 workers at its editorial office in Malmö. The company's entire operations in the city located in the southern part of Sweden will close, and the business will be concentrated at the headquarters in Stockholm. The restructuring plan has been presented to trade union representatives and talks are held between both parties. Employees in Malmö represents the 16% of the company's workforce in Sweden.

The company´s revenues from print sales have declined over time, forcing Aller Media along with several of competitors to cut down on costs. The decline in print revenues is the explicit cause of the recent restructuring, which is not the first. In 2018, Aller Media laid off 100 employees in order to develop the company´s digital editions and at the same time make the print business profitable (Aller Media-2018-SE).

Aller Media is well-known player in the Swedish media sector, publishing editions such as Elle and Femina. In September 2021, Aller Media had 375 employees in Sweden.
