Description

Lufthansa, a German airline headquartered in Cologne, Germany, announced 280 job cuts on 19 May 2022. Lufthansa ceased flight operations at Germanwing completely in April 2020 due to the COVID crisis. The job losses will affect 280 pilots of the Lufthansa subsidiary Germanwings.

Lufthansa explained that operational dismissals had been made for formal reasons. Further Lufthansa stated that employees, at the same time, had received an offer to transfer to the new company Cockpitpersonal on comparable terms.

The professional association "Vereinigung Cockpit" described the dismissals as socially irresponsible and not economically sensible. The company did not give money available for a social plan.
