Swissport Belgium- the baggage handling and cleaning services provider at Zavantem airport in Brussels- has filed for bankruptcy and 1,469 employees will lose their job. 1,309 people work in baggage services, while 160 in cleaning services. The company has been severely hit by the COVID-19 crisis, which caused the airline market to collapse. Trade unions said the announcement came as a shock to them and the employees.
Swissport is s Swiss group which provides service activities incidental to air transportation. It is active at 307 locations in 50 countries and employs 66,000 worldwide. Swissport Belgium employs 1,469 people at Zavantem Brussels airport.
