The restructuring events database contains factsheets with data on large-scale restructuring events reported in the principal national media and company websites in each EU Member State. This database was created in 2002.
The University of Tampere, which is located in the Western part of Finland, is to cut 215 jobs from support services. The faculties’ teaching and research staff are not affected. The job reductions involve only administrative personnel. The co-operation negotiations began in September and concerned 1,100 employees. They are based on economic and production reasons because the employer’s target is to reduce personnel costs by €14 million annually.
According to local shop stewards, the reductions will have a broad impact on the university’s basic tasks. A demonstration is organised on 25 November against the decision.
