Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
EasyJet, the UK-based budget airline, has announced that it will create 150 jobs in Europe by summer 2022. The business expansion applies to Spain and Portugal where EasyJet is to create 120 and 30 jobs respectively.
The restructuring comes as an effect of company's decision to add five Airbus A320 aircraft to its fleet at Palma de Mallorca, Malaga (Spain) and Faro (Portugal) airports, in order to strengthen its bases in Portugal and Spain in view of summer 2022 touristic season. Thanks to this staff expansion, EasyJet will increase its fleet in the Iberian Peninsula by 70% in comparison to pre-COVID-19 levels.
Founded in 1995, EasyJet is a British multinational low-cost airline group headquartered at London Luton Airport. It operates on over 1,000 routes in more than 30 countries. Currently, the company employs about 14,000 people in Europe.
In May 2020, EasyJet announced a restructuring programme affecting 4,500 jobs in Europe due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
