Description

ABB, a worldwide group of industrial technology, owns three manufacturing units in Tallinn, Estonia. One of the three units, specialised in manufacturing electricity distribution equipment, will be closed by the end of 2021 resulting in dismissal of around 100 employees. The unit will be relocated to another European country (currently unknown to which) as the production is not cost-effective given the current labour costs in Estonia. The dismissals affect workers in both manufacturing and office departments, including engineers, sales representatives and specialists.

ABB has been active in Estonia for more than 20 years in the energy and automation sectors. The company is profitable and the production volume is increasing. Therefore, the other two units will remain in place and no further restructuring plans are currently in place.
