Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Irish producer of automotive components Aptiv has announced that it will cut 300 jobs throughout a collective dismissal programme at its plant in Jeleśnia within the next few months. The restructuring programme aims to adjust and reorganise production activities and includes relocation of some operations to another factory in the region. The company has launched negotiations with the local trade unions on the conditions of the programme; the talks are expected to be concluded by the end of May 2021.
Headquartered in Dublin, Ireland, Aptiv was founded in 1994. With presence in 44 countries, the company employs more than 180,000 people across 124 manufacturing facilities and 12 technical centres worldwide. In Poland, the company has been operating for almost 30 years. Currently, Aptiv employs 1,850 people at the Jeleśnia site.
