Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
The Frasers Group, the UK-based fashion and sports goods retailer, has announced that it will close its House of Fraser department store in the Jenners building, Edinburgh, in early May, making 200 jobs redundant.
A statement by the Frasers Group said the store would close because the group was unable to reach a ‘fair’ agreement with the building’s owner on the extension of the rental agreement. A spokesperson for the company which owns the site said there would be another a store in the building and talks with other retailers were already underway.
The Jenners department store first opened in 1838. In 2005 it was acquired by The House of Frasers chain and since 2018 it has been operated by the Frasers (formerly known as Sports Direct) Group.
