Supermarket chain Aldi is to recruit 1,050 additional staff in 2021. The majority (700) will be permanent roles to staff new stores and the remainder are temporary positions to provide additional support during the Covid-19 pandemic.

The new roles include store assistants, assistant store managers and store managers and are in addition to 500 extra staff hired by Aldi since the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic.

Aldi currently has 145 stores in Ireland and employs 4,500 people.

“Additional investment for 2021 in new stores, store extensions and Project Fresh store upgrades confirms our continued commitment to the Irish economy,” said Niall O'Connor, Group Managing Director at Aldi Ireland.

The company has pledged to pay the Irish living wage - as well as sick pay which is not a mandatory requirement on Irish employers - to all employees.
