Description

The management of the Bosch Automotive Steering (Loire-et-Cher) announced before the social and economic committee the closure of the electric power steering assembly line which employs 75 people. The management should propose redeployment solutions for some employees, but 49 would be without a solution and could be made redundant, that is a little more than 10% of the 480 employees on permanent employment contracts (not counting the 20 to 30 temporary workers on the site).

This production line was installed in 2017 to meet an order from Ford. The closure of this line is said to be due to the termination (because of disappointing sales of one of the latest Ford car models) of the contract that bound Bosch to Ford until 2025. According to the CGT, the employees accepted a three-year wage freeze to obtain this production line which also benefited from public subsidies. The production line will be stopped by the end of 2021, but the effects on employment will be felt once an agreement has been reached with the employee representatives, in other words in the first half of 2021.
