Description

The British contract catering group Compass has announced between 1,000 and 1,500 jobs in France as part of a worldwide reorganisation.

The group plans to cut around 0.5% of its workforce, mainly in Europe, in response to weakness in certain key markets such as Germany, France and the UK. According to management, the total number of job cuts will not exceed 4,000 out of a total workforce of 600,000 worldwide. In France, the job cuts will be carried out through a voluntary departure plan, without forced redundancies.

The whole sector has been hit hard by the pandemic, which has led to a surge in teleworking and a drop in demand for collective catering within companies. Sodexo, a major competitor of Compass, has already announced a plan to cut more than 2,000 jobs in France and the other competitor Elior is going to cut 1,888 positions. A former reorganisation at Compass France was recorded in 2009, with 128 job cuts.
