PostNL is planning to open a new parcel sorting centre in Westzaan in the summer of 2021 and it will employ around 400 people. This centre is one of two new sorting centres to be opened next year, the other one is a sorting centre for smaller parcels which is planned to be constructed in Nieuwegein. PostNL is continuing its rapid expansion due to the growth of online shopping, which already caused a capacity increase of 40%. With the planned expansion, PostNL aims to further increase its capacity. The new centre in Westzaan will deliver parcels in and around the municipality of Zaanstad.
