Description
Saint-Gobain, the French multinational company specialised in the engineering and manufacturing of materials, has announced the closure of its glass factory in Arbós (Tarragona), with the dismissal of its 122 employees, and affecting another 80 indirect workers. The Arbós plant was expecting an investment for the renovation of its float furnace. However, the company said that the situation of the sector caused by COVID-19 is forcing the suspension of this investment, causing the closure of the factory.
The unions denounce that the company wants to distribute the production currently located in Catalonia to other factories across Germany, France, Poland and Egypt. The unions have held a two-week strike at the factory in protest against this plan. The company and the worker representatives are now negotiating on the terms of the plan.
