Description

The public employment service - Pôle emploi - is going to increase its workforce by recruiting 2,800 people 'to support young people' and to cope with the increase in the number of unemployed people due to the social crisis caused by the COVID-19 epidemic, announced the Minister of Labour.

The total 2,800 new jobs ware dististributed as follows: about 1,300 additional jobs will be dedicated to supporting young people, 650 of which will be created from September onwards. In addition, 1,500 new jobs will be taken on from September as well, to cope with the increase in the number of job seekers.

These 2,800 recruitments (full-time equivalent) will be made either on permanent or fixed-term contracts. The breakdown between the types of contracts is entrusted to the social dialogue within Pôle emploi. The Labour Minister pointed out that these recruitment figures could be revised upwards if the job market continues to deteriorate.

Thanks to the upturn in activity following the end of the lockdown, unemployment in July confirmed the respite observed since May. However, it remains at a high level, at 4.047 million, 560,000 more unemployed than at the end of February 2020.
