The restructuring events database contains factsheets with data on large-scale restructuring events reported in the principal national media and company websites in each EU Member State. This database was created in 2002.
After a meeting at the Ministry of Economic Development, Contship Italia, the company in charge of the management of the Porto Canale (the industrial port) in Cagliari, confirmed the decision to dismiss all 200 of its workers in the port. Since the short-time work scheme ended on September 1, the 200 workers are now unemployed.
The trade unions heavily contested the company's decision and its unwillingness to accept the start of a new social shock absorber with no costs for the company and entirely financed by public expenditure.
