Description
Charter airline Sunclass Airlines has announced it is to dismiss all its Swedish cabin crew. In total, 175 employees have been dismissed. During spring 2020, the company informed the employees that they would be required to accept a salary reduction of 20% to keep their jobs. The trade union that represents the company's Swedish cabin personnel, Unionen, refused to accept this proposal.
According to the company, 98% of the organised Swedish cabin crew staff would have accepted the offer. Union argues they were ready to negotiate for the salary reductions but stresses that the impact of salary reductions is not limited to the actual salary but it would have affected even the retirement and unemployment allowances and thus have significant long-term consequences for the employees.
According to the company's website, Sunclass Airlines operates from Sweden, Finland, Norway and Denmark. It was formerly known as Thomas Cook Airlines Scandinavia.
