Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
The supermarket chain Auchan announced that it plans to close two stores in Lubin and Grudziądz, Poland, which will cause 284 redundancies. The closure of the branches is scheduled for 27 September 2020. The conditions of the collective dismissal programme were negotiated with the local trade unions, and dismissed workers will receive severance pay according to their seniority. The company announced that the stores are no longer profitable.
In Poland, Auchan has been operating since 1996; currently, the chain has over 70 hypermarkets and employs about 22,000 across the country.
A previous restructuring in the bank took place in June 2020(293 job cuts).
