Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
The pharmaceutical giant GSK has announced 100 recruitments for its Saint-Amand-les-Eaux (Nord) plant, which produces vaccines and could manufacture one or more vaccines against COVID-19. 80% of the new employees are operators, but also technicians, supervisors and maintenance staff. The site produces some 20 vaccines for 120 countries, for children and adults, notably against malaria and meningitis. Without waiting for this new vaccine against COVID-19, the crisis has already had positive effects for the pharmaceutical giant, says the establishement's director. Indeed, the health crisis has really highlighted the importance of vaccines, and then the need to ensure the continuity of supply of these vaccines.
The plant, which has doubled its workforce since its creation in 2011, currently employs 900 people.
