Description

ABM Aviation UK, the British subsidiary of the US-based facilities management company ABM Industries has cut 195 jobs at Stansted Airport, where ABM Aviation provides baggage handling and check in services for Ryanair.

The group managing director at ABM Aviation said that the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic had been 'simply devastating' and added that the job cuts were necessary to protect the future of the business.

Representatives of the trade union Unite said that they would challenge the proposed redundancies and called for government support for the UK Aviation industry.

Update 24/07/2020: ABM Aviation UK is planning to cut 500 'ambassador' jobs at London's Heathrow Airport, according to the trade union Unite. ‘Ambassadors’ assist passengers through security, passport control and accessing connecting flights. The total number of proposed job losses is now at 695.
