Description
The Canadian group KDC/One, specialised in the manufacture of cosmetic products, announced a complete reorganisation of its industrial activities in Europe that will lead to site closures in France and the United Kingdom. More than 150 jobs will be cut. This reorganisation comes one year after the acquisition of the Alkos Group in France and Swallowfield in the UK. The restructuring project involves redeploying the production of make-up pencils and soaps from the Swallowfield Bideford (UK) and Sagal Cosmétiques (Gallardon, Eure-et-Loire, France) sites to Alkos Cosmétiques' latest-generation facilities at Hesdin-l'Abbé (Pas-de-Calais, France). This would be accompanied by investment in a new state-of-the-art soap production line.
These relocations should lead to the closure of the Sagal Cosmétiques (52 employees) and Swallowfield Bideford (100 employees) sites. Finally, redundancies are also envisaged at the Wellington (UK) and Paris (France) sites, in particular due to the reorganisation of commercial activities. The company has warned all Bideford-based employees are at risk of redundancy, with the site expected to close at the end of August. Consultations will soon commence with employees at risk of redundancy in France and in the UK.
