Description

The Belgian group Agfa-Gevaert has announced to close its plate factories at Pont-à-Marcq (Nord) by the end of 2020 and at Leeds (United Kingdom). The announcement affects 175 jobs in France and 76 in Leeds. Agfa-Gevaert explains it faces a 'significant and structural" decline in demand in the 'extremely competitive offset printing market'. The company says it will have to adapt its capacity to better respond to changing market conditions. The drop in demand is reflected in lower volumes as well as falling prices. The decrease is even more pronounced for Themofuse plates (environmentally friendly offset plates) produced at these two plants than for other plates, Agfa-Gevaert added.
