Description

Hitachi Construction Machinery Europe (HCME), a manufacturer of excavators and other machinery, has announced it will close its construction plant in Oosterhout, causing 115 employees to lose their jobs. The company will move the production of custom-made machinery to its other Dutch location in Amsterdam while the production of standard machinery is moved to Japan. Unions expressed their disappointment with this decision, pointing out that the Oosterhout plant was still making a profit, although it had become less profitable. Hitachi is a worldwide industrial conglomerate, with almost 300,000 employees including 500 employees in the Netherlands.
