European Restructuring Monitor (ERM)
The restructuring events database contains factsheets with data on large-scale restructuring events reported in the principal national media and company websites in each EU Member State. This database was created in 2002.
The Irish commercial airport company Daa is going to reduce its workforce by up to 1,000. The company's chief executive told Daa staff on 19 May that the number of employees will need to be reduced due to the significant decrease in air transport because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The impact of the crisis, with a diminution of 99% of passengers transited through the airports in April, suggests that in 2020 Daa will have a throughput of 21 million passengers, while they were about 35.5 million in 2019. It has been, then, suggested that between 750 and 1,000 jobs may be cut, in particular through voluntary redundancies.
The representatives of the trade union SIPTU have called for an urgent meeting with Daa to discuss the internal restructuring plan and the measures to cushion its effects on workers. In particular, SIPTU declared it will seek that any proposed job reduction measures are voluntary in nature.
Daa is a commercial semi-state airport company, which owns and operates Dublin and Cork Airport in Ireland.
