Description
Copenhagen Malmö Port, a port company located in the Öresund region, has given a notice of redundancy that impacts 40 employees in Malmö. As a result of the COVID-19 outbreak, the volume of trade and passenger traffic has significantly decreased at the port of Malmö. As the port is the biggest carport of Scandinavia, many vehicle factories have been negatively impacted and the sale of new cars drops significantly. A savings package initiated in March 2020 and financial assistance from Denmark and Sweden have not been enough to cover the loss of revenue.
No notice of redundancy has been announced in Denmark so far, but the company argues that layoffs may be needed later this year, depending on the development of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Copenhagen Malmö Port has 356 employees in Sweden. The restructuring will affect around 11% of the workforce.
