Description
Gatwick Airport has announced that it will cut 200 jobs as part of a cost saving drive. Most of those affected were employed on fixed-term contracts or worked as contractors.
The Chief Executive Officer said that the job cuts were necessary to protect the business in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic. He added that while he regretted the decision, there was ongoing consultation with employees about further cost cutting measures, such as unpaid leaves and temporary salary reductions.
Gatwick is the UK’s second largest airport, which provides employment to over 30,000 people, the vast majority of whom are not employed directly by the Airport but work for airlines, baggage handling companies and retailers.
